Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)

CRO, conversion rate optimization, is making it easier for the people already visiting your website to call, book, or buy.

What It Is

Your conversion rate is the share of visitors who take the action you care about. If 500 people visit in a month and 10 of them call, the rate is 2%. CRO is the trade's name for raising that number: finding where visitors hesitate or give up, and removing the reason. It works on the traffic you already have, which makes it the cheapest growth most businesses can find.

How It Works

The work starts by watching the path a customer takes, on a phone, since that is where so many local searches happen. Can they find the phone number without scrolling? Does the booking button work? Does the form ask for eleven fields when three would do? Do the prices, hours, and service area answer the questions that would otherwise take a phone call, or send the visitor back to Google?

Large companies run experiments, showing two versions of a page to thousands of visitors and keeping the winner. Most local businesses do not have the traffic to settle a test like that in any reasonable time, so CRO for them is mostly about clearing obvious friction: a broken form, a buried number, a checkout that fails on a phone. Those problems do not need a test to prove them. They need someone to walk through the site the way a customer does.

Why It Matters for Being Found

Being found is only half the job. A customer who finds you and cannot figure out how to book will book with someone else, and all the work that brought them to you is spent for nothing. Doubling the rate at which visitors become customers is worth as much as doubling the visitors, and it is usually much easier. It also makes every other investment, organic or paid, go further.
